Leather vs Fabric Upholstered Bed: How to Choose Covers for Your Range

The cover is the first thing a customer touches and one of the biggest drivers of price. This guide compares a leather vs fabric upholstered bed from a trade buyer’s point of view: look, feel, care, durability and cost, with the covers we use in our factory in Foshan.

Leather upholstered bed options
Our collections use top-grain leather and cowhide headboards, for example in the Premium and Italian Contemporary NO.2 series, and eco leather on contract and kids’ models. Top-grain leather gives a tailored, premium look; eco leather offers a leather appearance at a different price point. For background on the material itself, see leather.
Fabric upholstered bed options
Fabrics in our range include linen-velvet, cotton fabric, technical fabric and bouclé. Fabric covers suit soft, relaxed designs such as our comfort beds and cushion-module headboards, and give retailers more colours to work with in a showroom.
A fabric upholstered bed also makes it easier to offer one model in several colours without changing the frame or the headboard shape. For retailers, that means a single model can cover several price points and room styles. Fabric covers are chosen from our fabric library in the showroom, and a new colour is confirmed with a swatch before production.
Look and feel in the showroom
Customers judge a bed in seconds. A leather upholstered bed reads as tailored and formal, with crisp seams and a surface that catches the light; fabric covers read as soft and relaxed, and texture does much of the work. Many ranges combine both: leather for the statement model and fabric for the volume sellers. Our Collections & Capabilities page shows how each series uses leather and fabric.
Durability and supplier test reports
We publish supplier test reports for selected materials on our About Us page. The tested YPR5429 upholstery fabric exceeded 30,000 rubs in abrasion testing, with azo dye and formaldehyde tests; the AK-series cow leather sample was tested for colourfastness, free formaldehyde and odour. The reports apply to the samples tested, so ask for the report that matches the cover you choose. View the Quality & Test Reports.
Matching the cover to the buyer
- Furniture brands: the cover defines the brand look; develop it with a sample (sampling process).
- Wholesalers: a few proven covers across many models keep orders efficient.
- Retailers: fabrics give colour choice in the showroom; leather anchors the premium end.
- Hotel and contract: durable, easy-care covers and the same colour across every room.
How covers affect price and lead time
The cover is one of the six factors in upholstered bed pricing. Standard covers keep standard lead times of about 20 days; a new cover or colour usually needs a sample, and custom models take 30–40 days after approval.
