Upholstery for Wholesale Beds: 6 Smart Ways to Choose Leather or Fabric

The cover is the first thing your customer sees and touches. Choosing upholstery for wholesale beds means balancing look, use and order planning across a whole collection. This guide covers the cover materials we work with in our factory in Foshan and six ways to choose between them.
The cover materials we use
We upholster beds in three materials: top-grain leather, faux leather and upholstery fabric. On our Comfort and Premium series, top-grain genuine leather covers the headboard contact surface, the part people touch and lean on, and high-density faux leather covers the other parts. Top-grain is the outer layer of the hide (see leather). Fabric covers suit softer, textured designs.
6 ways to choose upholstery for wholesale beds
1. Start with the customer
Decide who buys the bed and what they expect to pay. A premium showroom range and an entry-level online range need different covers, even on the same frame.
2. Think about where the bed will stand
A guest room in a hotel sees more wear and cleaning than a bedroom at home. For contract orders, state the use in your brief; see Hotel & Contract.
3. Keep the colour palette small
A few colours used across all models are easier to plan, sample and reorder than a different colour per model. Colours are matched to your swatch or chosen from our cover range.
4. Approve a physical reference
A screen photo is fine for shortlisting, but approve the cover material from a swatch or a sample. Shades vary between batches, so the approved reference is what bulk production is checked against; see the upholstered bed sampling process.
5. Ask for the test reports your market needs
Our material suppliers provide test reports for foam, fabric, board and leather. If your market or project needs specific tests, list them in the enquiry. See our quality checks and supplier test reports.
6. Plan covers across a mixed order
The minimum order is 20 sets, and the sets can mix models and covers. Group lines by cover so each colour is cut in a sensible quantity; read how mixed orders work.
Leather or fabric: a quick comparison
A general comparison of bed upholstery options, to discuss with your team before you choose:
| Top-grain leather | Faux leather | Upholstery fabric | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Look | Natural grain, varies slightly by hide | Even surface and colour | Texture and pattern |
| Feel | Soft, warms to the touch | Smooth | Soft, depends on the weave |
| Care | Wipe clean, leather care | Wipe clean | Vacuum, spot clean |
| Colour range | Leather colours from our range or to swatch | Wide | Widest |

How covers affect the quotation and lead time
The cover material and colour are part of every quotation line, and a change of cover can change the price. Standard models take about 20 days; a cover developed for your order makes the model a custom one, with 30–40 days after the sample is approved. Our wholesale upholstered bed quotation checklist shows how to list covers per line, and the upholstered bed customization brief covers new colours for OEM projects.
Upholstery is cut and sewn in our own workshop and fitted by our upholstery team, so the cover material you approve stays under one roof until packing. Meet the departments on Our Team.
