Upholstered Bed Customization Brief: 8 Essentials for OEM and ODM Projects

A custom upholstered bed starts with a brief. The clearer the brief, the fewer sample rounds you need. This guide lists the eight essentials of an upholstered bed customization brief for OEM and ODM projects, and shows what our factory in Foshan does with it.
OEM or ODM: where your upholstered bed customization brief starts
In an OEM project, you bring the design and we build it to your specification under your brand. In an ODM project, you start from one of our existing models and adapt it: a different headboard height, a new cover or your own labels. Both can be private label. The term original equipment manufacturer is used loosely in furniture, so state which one you mean. Our OEM & ODM for Brands page describes both routes.
8 essentials of a customization brief
1. The project and the market
Say who will buy the bed and where: a retail collection, an online range or hotel rooms, and in which country. This decides sizes, covers and packing.
2. Design references
Send drawings if you have them, or reference photos you are allowed to use, with the details you want marked. Separate must-haves from preferences.
3. Dimensions
Give the mattress size, the overall length and width, and the headboard height. The upholstered bed dimensions checklist lists every measurement a custom upholstered bed needs.
4. Construction
If you have no construction requirements, our standard construction is the starting point. Any change, such as a solid board base instead of slats, goes in the brief:
| Component | Standard construction (Comfort and Premium series) |
|---|---|
| Frame | Imported Russian larch, polished on four sides |
| Board | E0-grade solid-wood board |
| Padding | High-density, high-resilience polyurethane foam |
| Upholstery | Top-grain genuine leather on the headboard contact surface, high-density faux leather elsewhere |
| Base | 10 cm steel-and-wood slatted base, or a solid board base |
| Legs | Custom metal legs |
| Packaging | 3 cartons: headboard, side rails, base; carton size and CBM confirmed with each quotation |
5. Covers and colours
Name the material (top-grain leather, faux leather or upholstery fabric) and send a swatch or colour code. Read choosing upholstery for wholesale beds for how covers are approved.
6. Branding and packaging
List logos, labels, carton marks and assembly instructions. Each bed ships in three cartons; the export packaging guide shows what can carry your brand.
7. Quantities and rollout
Give an estimated first order and the expected repeat orders. The minimum is 20 sets per order, and custom and standard models can be mixed.
8. Timeline
State your target arrival date. Custom models take 30–40 days from sample approval; standard models about 20 days. Shipping time is added on top.

What happens after you send the brief
Our development team turns the brief into a written specification and confirms what can be made as described. We then build a sample with the same departments that make bulk orders: the frame workshop led by our in-house master craftsmen, cutting and sewing, and upholstery. The upholstered bed sampling process explains the six steps from brief to approved sample. After approval, bulk production is scheduled and our quality control team checks the beds against the approved sample before packing.
With up to 4,200 sets a month of capacity, a custom upholstered bed can move from sample to repeat orders without changing factory. See all upholstered bed manufacturing services or send your customization brief.
